Germany approved 6.6 million euros ($7.8 million) in arms exports to Israel during the first four weeks of the war with Iran, according to government data reported by the German press agency dpa, a modest volume in comparison to past deals.

The series of approvals took place between February 28, when Israeli and US forces began striking Iran, and March 27, according to responses from the German economy ministry to a parliamentary inquiry by the country’s Left party.

The figure is significantly lower than the 166.95 million euros ($196.82 million) in export licenses granted in the months after Berlin lifted arms restrictions tied to the Gaza war in November 2025.

Arms exports to Israel have been a politically sensitive topic in Germany. Following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack, Berlin initially expanded its support, but later imposed limits amid criticism of Israel’s conduct in Gaza before easing them again after a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas in October.
