A recap of recent developments
US President Donald Trump says he will “soon be reviewing the plan Iran has just sent to us” but does not think he can make a deal.
The comments come after Iran sent a 14-point plan to the US, calling for guarantees of non-aggression, the lifting of a naval blockade and an end to the war “on all fronts," including in Lebanon.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it is on standby for a return to war with the US, saying a resumption of hostilities is “likely”, as “evidence shows that [the US] is not committed to any agreements or treaties”.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry says Trump describing the US’s capture of Iranian vessels as “piracy” is a “direct and damning admission of the criminal nature of their actions” against Tehran.
Israeli forces continue to bombard Lebanon, killing at least three people in the Tyre district, as the death toll since March 2 rises to 2,659 people.
Israel’s military admits to striking and damaging a Catholic “religious building” in southern Lebanon on Saturday as criticism grows over Israel’s attacks on Christian sites.
